CCWB PROGRESS REPORT
Raptor Conservation Society (RCS) has received a small grant from Oriental Bird Club (OBC) UK in 2007. The project aims at boosting level of public participation and local leadership in conserving biodiversity of the two IBAs (BirdLife, 2006) through charismatic and endemic raptor (Javan hawk eagle) as the flagship species in Puncak, West Java. The aim will be pursued by the following objectives:
- collecting actual and direct threats to the conservation of the species concerned in and around the two IBAs and its illegal trades;
- liaising with a local school near nest sites in introducing the species and the need to conserve them; a regular and long term bird related education program will be initiated in this school;
- providing practical support through the provision of such facilities such as Data Sheet Form,, and Log Book;
- developing and building volunteerism among students and expatriates interested in joining the activity.
