CLOSE CONTACT WITH BIRDS (CCWB)
CCWB is one of the program aimed at saving and introducing biodiversity, uniqueness, and ecology of the birds inhabiting the Gede-Pangrango National Park and Puncak (Telaga Warna-Cibulao Nature Reserve and surrounding areas). Those areas are Important Bird Areas (IBA) as stated by BirdLife International (1998). To participate in saving these two IBAs, RCS holds
- Bird monitoring in Gede-Pangrango NP and its surrounding areas
- Environmental education and campaign
RCS has monitored a pair of Javan hawk eagle, Nisaetus bartelsi at Telaga Warna Cibulao since 1998 (further report click!). For this purpose, RCS in collaboration with Adam A. Supriatna has provided a bird checklist for the area specified and Birdwatchers’ Logbook for birdwatchers who are going to visit or have visited Gede-Pangrango NP and Puncak, West Java.
Raptor Watching, or we often call this event as “BMW” which stands for “Birds of prey Migratory Watch” is an annual event held by RCS to monitor the raptors that migrate over the Puncak area (West Java). The event is also used to hold bird conservation campaign for the public.
Whereas, Environmental education and campaign is in particularly designed to develop awareness and understanding of young generation, both university and school students as well as the public in general.

Projects
RCS with kind support from Oriental Bird Club (OBC) has conducted survey on direct conservation threats being faced by Gede-Pangrango National Park and in particularly Telaga Warna-Cibulao. The survey has been conducted along the borders and coordinated with local schools (teachers and students) through implementation of environmental education and campaign. Our long term strategy is to involve school students living near these protected areas in nature conservation efforts (see the progress report!).
